First Monday

This is just a reminder, as we start the new year, that every first Monday of each month you'll see a new Designer Crafts Connection project on this site. Each month will have a theme for inspiration, and you can jump forward or backward to see the work of many professional designers.

That being said, this month is the exception. Since the first Monday falls on a "holiday" (not really a holiday, but so many people are off work today and possibly traveling home from their Christmas jaunts), we will be posting next week on Monday, January 9. The January theme is journaling, so check back for some great designs.

Don't forget to celebrate Elvis' birthday on January 8, either. How about a heaping serving of fried peanut butter and 'nanner samwiches in his honor? Here's the recipe, straight from Graceland by way of America's 100 Best Sandwiches by Jane and Michael Stern:

Elvis Presley's Hot Peanut Butter and Banana Sandwich

Ingredients

2 tablespoons peanut butter (preferably smooth)
2 slices white sandwich bread
1 small ripe banana, mashed with a fork (about 1/4 cup)
2 tablespoons butter

Spread peanut butter evenly on 1 slice of bread, then spread mashed banana on other slice, leaving a 1/4-inch border around edge. Close sandwich, gently pressing bread slices together.

Heat butter in an 8- to 10-inch heavy skillet over moderate heat until foam subsides, then fry sandwich, turning over once, until golden brown, about 2 minutes total.

Eat immediately with a knife and fork.

There ya'go. Straight from the King's mouth.

Thank ya. Thank ya very much!
