Flower Power
Welcome to week #3 of the Sizzix Triple Play Blog Hop! This week we are using Brenda Pinnick's Beauty Bloom Flower die. This versatile die has large flowers, small flowers and some in between. You can cut them from paper, fabric, cork or whatever you like.
I have to confess, I looked at these long and hard trying to decide what I wanted to use them for. My first thought was to decorate a frame or shadowbox, then a recipe card box, then little ducks. That's right. Little ducks. The selection of diecuts I received had several yellow felt flowers that looked just like...you guessed it...duck feet. If I could felt like Debra Quartermain (also participating in this blog hop), you'd be viewing a collection of fuzzy little yellow ducks with big flower petal feet.
I had to visit the physical therapist office Monday, and while I waited for my tri-weekly dose of pain, I thumbed through a Better Homes and Gardens magazine. There was an ad that had a mask in it, and it hit me: I just had to make a Flower Power Mardi Gras mask.
Here's how I did it:
1. I first traced the flower petals on to four pieces of iron-on interfacing, attached it to four different fabrics, and cut 12-15 flower petals of each fabric. I used a Viva Decor Gold Glitter Pen and Citrus Green Stickles to highlight the edges of the petals and add dots to a few.
2. Using a plain purchased mask as the base, I glued on the petals with Beacon Fabri-Tac adhesive, beginning on the outer edges and working toward the middle. I carefully trimmed the eyeholes and outlined them with Green Stickles.
3. I used the Sizzix Elegant Flourishes die by Tim Holtz to cut swirls from vanilla cardstock, glued them to the mask and added more gold Glitter Pen, arranging some of the paper flowers I received from Sizzix on the swirls.
4. I added ribbon on the upper left side and attached a dowel rod handle that had been painted gold.
That's it. This entire project took less than two hours, and most of that time was waiting for the glue to dry.
Now I just need to find a party to attend!
