Cake X 2

Another round of the Sizzix ScoreBoard blog hop is upon us. This time, we're using the cake die. This die is great alone, but I added part of the ScoreBoard Cupcake (hence the title, Cake X 2) die as well. Check out all the other ideas from designers listed below. Eileen Hull is the designer of these great dies.

The theme this time was to use our favorite....color, technique, etc. I love the chocolate and peach combo as well as Cuttlebug textures, so that's what I used. I also used up supplies from my embellishment collection, so don't know all of the manufacturers.

The pearls were from my stash, given to me by a dear friend whose mother owned a bead store in the '70s. I wrapped the beads around the cake base, adhering with Be Creative® double stick tape. I draped white pearls around the edge to simulate icing trim. The inside was lined with Bohemia paper which had been spritzed with Tattered Angels Golden Autumn to get the proper color. All edges were inked with Chestnut Roan Colorbox ink.

I painted the scalloped base with Making Memories copper paint then added bling to the scallops as well as the dangled bead trim. The bling was colored with Ginger alcohol ink from Ranger. The base was added to the box with Beacon 527 adhesive.

I tried a lot of different treatments for the top and was just about at my wits end when I remembered the cupcake die Sizzix premiered back at the end of 2009. I cut two pieces from thin metal printing plates (Thanks, Ronnie Goff!) but you could use purchased metal or soda cans as well. I sprayed the metal with Krylon Copper paint, then ran it through the Cuttlebug. I cut the pieces apart, trimmed 1/4" off the straight ends and arranged them in a flower pattern on the top. I glued it down with Beacon 527 adhesive to make sure it stayed put. Additional bling colored with Ginger alcohol ink on the top finished off the outside. The handle was made with a few beads, glued in with Beacon 527 and the bottom of the lid covered with Chocolate Chip cardstock from Stampin'Up!®.

To finish the inside, I made a ball of fiber fill and covered it with brown taffeta fabric then tied it up with copper cord.

This would make a great gift box which could be used later as a place to keep precious jewelry.
